Onam Celebration 2020
Onam, the traditional festival of Kerala, is a harvest festival celebrating the reward of nature after a year of uphill struggle by the farmers. It is celebrated between the end of August and beginning of September with great pomp, which marks homecoming of legendary king Mahabali. Onam festival unites everyone from all communities irrespective of their religion and caste. The activities during this festival season includes Onam Vallamkalli (boat race), Onam Sadhya(Food), Onam Pookalam (Flower carpet), Kaikotti kali etc.
We at Dr. G.S.K. Memorial school, Kumbakonam bring learners and teaching fraternity in folds of festivity through celebration and stimulate healthy brotherhood and keep the air always filled with harmony even in this hard time of pandemic.
On August 31 2020, we continued the celebrations by connecting virtually our Grade 1 to 8 students dressed up in the traditional attire creating platform to participate in various competitions organised via online mode. The significance of this occasion was expounded by the teachers, and observers tapped along in delight to traditional Onam dance performed by the teachers. The Pookalam with fresh flower petals, diyas made by the crew indeed brought out the festival look of Onam.
